Even though we are separated by an ocean, we still manage to challenge each other. :)

I think what both us need to try to understand is why we have assumed 'humans lack the mental capacity to put above ourselves our natural environment'. Although I question intentions, I believe in the human race. I think we have the brain power to recognize that the natural environment should be respected and there are more efficient ways to use its resources and give them back to the earth full circle. This has triggered a lecture I have attended on the American architect William McDonough and German ecological chemist Michael Braungart's ecologically intelligent design theory that Waste=Food. ALL outputs should become inputs, either into the earth or back into the operations of a business.

I get excited every time I think of their ideas and work they have introduced to the world. Human beings have the amazing potential to study processes and create more efficient means of producing. Later this week I will share more of their ideas because I think it is important to spread their wisdom. I encourage others to not only recognize and eliminate ineffective patterns, but to make the conscious effort to develop new daily habits that gives back just as many resources as one takes in.

Re: Kate | Get Talked About | Building Brand Conversations

Thanks for checking out my blog! :)

Re: Kate | Get Talked About | Building Brand Conversations

Mickey,

Your blog has my mind racing. If we try to get away from our "self" and instead try to use words that invite real dialogue, then we can find common ground!

Re: Adam | Get Talked About | Building Brand Conversations

I have a marketing degree from Bradley. Class of 91. I'm not trying to name drop ... but rather to say that in my pursuit of my degree there was not any "ethics" classes. Just group projects using a local small entrepeneurial business as the "guineau pig". Now... with a "global internet" economy the topic of ethics is so vastly different. With the playing field being so vastly bigger where does the pursuit of "more business" end and the "ethical boundaries" start? It is indeed a thin line.

Re: Adam | Get Talked About | Building Brand Conversations

Thank you for your response Mickey and I completely agree with you. We do need to be more educated on worldly issues rather than just our American news. I am not very happy with Groupon.com right now because they seem to using this as a theme now instead of learning from the voices of the people. This is the second distasteful commercial of their theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Re: Adam | Get Talked About | Building Brand Conversations

I think the American people are very naive when it comes to issues such as the Tibetan oppression. The same can be said about the current Egyptian situation. I agree with you that the commercial took a human tragedy and without any real explanation, used it to sell a brand. I have learned by getting to know some very fascinating people, that in America we are so focused on "self" that is something does not directly affect us, we don't take any time to educate ourselves, which is sad. I , for one, am not tolerant of it. For, our future will be impacted by events in Tibet and Egypt.

Re: Kate | Get Talked About | Building Brand Conversations

It is so very true that by just making a few changes in "words" one can make a conversation very positive as oppoed to negative! I guess that so much destruction is caused by our anthropocentric view and mistaken belief that the world is at our disposal, and so in this thinking, we take for granted its resources and completely disregard its fragility and sacredness. But this comes with the limitation of being human that we lack the mental capacity to put above ourselves our natural environment and other life systems that are somewhat superior to our own selfish existence. I am speaking generally, though I think that's how it goes.
